Poem— It Wasn’t Meant For Patriarchy

I haven’t shared any work in awhile and this poem arose out if me this morning and I believe it was meant to find a home here. I hope you enjoy it. It is unedited.

It Wasn’t Meant For Patriarchy

The first gift was Adam

A steward, a protector of The Mothers

And, together

they begot

and they begot

and they begot

and they begot

and on, and on it went—

All these families. These were living

families. Families that faced

sorrow, war, floods,

famine.

Families that loved.

Loved hard. And, because of that love,

they begot

and they begot

and they begot

and then— there she was, the woman

the angels came to, the One

The Lord had chosen.

And it was through this line

of protectors, the first gift

to The Mothers,

that she was protected.

And then He came.

And she was there.

And then he rose, after a bloodbath

and tears. It was done.

And slowly, they begot,

and they begot

and they begot

and they begot

generation after generation—

they forgot.

They forgot they were a gift

for Her.

They were once

protectors, and now—

power hungry, they ruled.

They ruled over Her and her

and her and on and on it went

until every part of Her

was conquered.

And then today they wonder,

Where is God in this place?
